Notable Leaders: Genghis Kahn & Kublai Kahn
Genghis Kahn: The most notable leader in the Mongol Empire Era was the first leader, Genghis Kahn. Although Born in Temujin his birthday isn’t really accurate. Some historians speculate that he was born in 1162 and died on August 1227. He gained power by uniting different nomadic tribes in Asia and founded the Mongol Empire in which he was then declared “Genghis Kahn." He then started the “Mongol Invasions” which were performed for conquests. These invasions and raids usually ended up in huge-scaled massacres of populations of conquest lands. Some of the attacked territories included the Kara-Khitan Khanate, Cacausus, Khwarezmid Empire, Western Xia, and Jin dynasties. Apart from standing out thanks to military achievements, Khan also accepted religious tolerance in the Mongol Empire and crated a unified empire of nomadic tribes in Northeast Asia. He adopted the Uyghur Script as a form of writing in the Empire. He also increased the effectiveness of trade through the Silk Road, since it was all under control of one political government. This resulted in communications between northeast Asia, Southwest Asia and Christian Europe to enhance. Some people might even credit the mighty Genghis Kan as being the founder of Mongolia.
Kublai Kahn:
Another notable leader is Kublai Kahn, grandson of Genghis Kahn. He was born in September 23, 1215 and died in February 18 1294. He also goes by the name of Shizu and was the fifth Great Kahn in the Mongol Empire from 1260 – 1294. However, in order to gain control over the Mongolian Empire he had to defeat his younger brother in the Toluid Civil War. Today In History states that Kublai’s realm stretched from the pacific ocean to the clack sea and from Siberia to modern day Afghanistan. In the year of 1271 Kublai founded the Yuang Dynasty which ruled, Korea, China, and Mongolia. Shortly after he became the first non-Chinese emperor to become emperor of China. And he ended a dry age of not conquering land since he was the first emperor after 1260 to gain new land for the Mongol Empire. Kublai Kahn had muslims working for him as appointed government officials and as scientist and engineers, however he still promoted religious tolerance. (richlandlibrary.com)
